Last week, with full unanimity, the parliament supported the withdrawal of Bulgaria’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 40% by the end of 2025. According to the decision, by the end of March, the official deputy prime minister for the management of European funds must reach an agreement and a preliminary positive assessment of changes by the European Commission.

“Once the Council has approved the plan, ie. once the decision to implement the plan is acceptable, only in exceptional cases can member states revise it and ask for a change. Now the country must show that it cannot implement part or all of the plan due to objective circumstances. The Commission is ready to discuss with individual Member States the implementation of individual targets that can no longer be achieved due to objective circumstances and must be changed,” said Wehrle Neutz, European Commission spokesperson.
