Funeral of Constantin II: His widow Anne-Marie worthy in front of her children in tears, Albert of Monaco moved
It was the big gathering of all the European elite this Monday: six days after the death of King Constantine II, all the royal families had gathered in Athens in the morning to pay their last respects. And in the first position, his family, who came out in tears from the ceremony, and in particular his wife Anne-Marie, who could not hide her tears. Hand on heart, the queen from Denmark thanked her guests and the tearful, but particularly dignified audience.
Surrounded by their five children (Alexia, 57, the heir Paul, 55, Nikolaos, 53, Theodora, 39 and Philippos, 36), she notably wore the same pendant she had chosen for their wedding, almost 59 years ago. Falling in love when the young woman was only 16 years old, the couple had never left each other, despite the exile and the difficult political situation.
Princes Paul and Nikolaos also showed their grief: the heir, supported by his wife Marie-Chantal and his five children (Maria Olympia, 26, Konstantinos, 24, Achileas, 22, Odysséas, 18 and Aristidis, 14 years old) imitated his mother, hand on his heart and tears in his eyes. He then hugged his cousins for a long time. Felipe VI of Spain and Joachim and Frederik from Denmark, providing poignant images.
Guests from all over the world
His little brother, meanwhile, was very touched, wiping away his tears, as was his wife Tatiana. It must be said that the couple was particularly close to the king and lived near him to see him regularly. Alexia from Greece, the eldest in the family, also broke down a few tears, as did her husband Carlos, her little brother Philippos, and their little sister Theodora.
Very moved, the whole clan, particularly united, was fortunately able to count on the support of the many guests. In addition to the royal family of Spain (almost!) in full force, many kings and queens of Europe had made the trip. Queen Margrethe of Denmark and her sister Benedikte, the elders of Queen Anne-Marie, had of course made the trip to support the widow. Princes Fredrik and Joachim, cold for a few months, had meanwhile decided on a truce for their uncle.
Touched, King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands arrived in the morning with his wife Maxima and his mother, Queen Dowager Beatrix. By their side, King Philippe of Belgium had made the trip with his wife Mathilde, as had King Carl XVI Gustaf and his wife Silvia. Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg was also present, not far from Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, his wife Mette-Marit and his sister Märtha Louise.
To represent the British royal clan, Princess Anne made the trip with her distant cousin, Lady Gabriella. The young woman, who was also a distant cousin of the Greek royal family, had been chosen at the last minute. Finally, Albert of Monaco was very serious and solo, and found in particular the royal families of Serbia or Romania.
