Serie C Gold Basket – Virtus Siena, fifth consecutive victory: Valdisieve also goes knockout
Fifth consecutive victory for Stosa Virtus Siena, which wins two points at the Balducci gym in Pontassieve by beating the hosts of Valdisieve 74-81. A very balanced game that saw the home team lead until the long interval (48-44). The rossoblu part was decisive in the third half of the game which allowed Stosa to regain her head and bring home the victory.
A very balanced start with the home team who are ahead 8-5 after 1′ and a half. Bartoletti from the line and Banchero from three push Virtus forward, but Bartolozzi puts Valdisieve back in the lead. A back and forth between the two teams with Stosa who manages to regain the lead with Banchero and Olleia, but Corradozzi and Morandi bring Valdisieve forward from the arc (21-18 with 2’40”). Forzieri extends from the line, then Berardi supports for -3. Piccini scores from the line (1/2), while Imbrò leans against the scoreboard. The first period ends on 24-22 in favor of the hosts.
Chests of three opens the scoring of the second half of the game. Dal Maso replies from below, but Valdisieve goes on target (29-24 at 7’28”). Paunovic makes the triple of -2, but Maltomini extends for him. The long rossoblu finds the basket and the foul, but does not complete the three-point game. Municchi scores the triple, but Virtus responds with Berardi and Bartoletti (34-33 at 4’40”). Bartolozzi places the triple from the corner. Paunovic finds a new three-point play with the basket and the free throw. Bartoletti’s coast to coast gave the rossoblu new lead 37-38 with 3′ left. Valdisieve goes back on, but Dal Maso replies. Occhini finds the triple, but Olleia impacts (42-42 at 1’27”). Paunovic from the line puts Stosa back in the lead, but on the other side Occhini makes a three-point play and the new lead for Valsieve. Galletti’s triple ends the second period at 48-44 in favor of the hosts.
The third period opens again in the name of balance, with the two teams 48-48 after 2′. Bartoletti and Olleia put Stosa back in the lead, thus finding a 10-0 run for 48-54 in mid-quarter. Occhini closes the break from Virtus, but Banchero extends the lead from the line (50-56). Morandi leans against the scoreboard, but Berardi replies. Valdisieve gets close to -1, but Dal Maso hits a triple that fixes the score at 57-61 at the third siren.
Morandi opens the scoring of the last half of the game. Olleia creates for Virtus. Bianchi hits the target from the line for 60-65. Valdisieve tries to make up ground and in the middle of the period there are five points separating the two teams. Imbrò goes up to the line due to the technical foul whistled on the visiting coach and makes no mistake, while Bianchi scores for +8 (64-72 at 3’50”). Little eyes from the bezel shortens distances (2/2). Bianchi only hits a free throw, then Paunivic on the counterattack stops at the limit of the three points and scores for 66-75 at 2’27”. Bianchi’s triple brings the advantage of Virtus in double figures, but then goes to commit a foul on Forzieri who realizes and brings home a three-point play. Valdisieve tries but Virtus doesn’t get caught and with Dal Maso scores for 73-81 at 20” putting the game in the safe and ends 74-81.
