The repair of the Barrand bridge is being prepared
Reconstruction of the Barrandovský bridge began last year on the southern half of its southern part. The work is spread over several years and should last only part of the year. For the entire period, they will amount to 594.5 million crowns. The complex from 1983, consisting of two parts, northern and southern, has never been repaired until now.
This year, road workers will work in the north-south part of the bridge, i.e. halfway from Smíchov to Braník, on the upper part of the ramp from K Barrandovu street and on the lower part of the southern bridge over the Vltava. “Preparatory work without traffic restrictions should start already during the second quarter. We are planning the start date of the works, when major traffic restrictions on the K Barrandov bridge and ramp are necessary, for May 2023. The main works should be directed to the holiday season,” said Scheinherr.
The end of this year’s traffic restrictions is scheduled for August. Even before the start of the reconstruction of the Barrandovský most, the road administration in Prague 5 will repair the intersection of Janáčkova náměstí and Jiráskova most.
The very first repair of the Barrandovský bridge began last year on May 16. Originally, the work was supposed to end on September 2. Due to forced adjustments to the project over the summer, the completion of repairs was pushed back to September 29th, and then again by more than two weeks to October 17th. Last year, for example, workers demolished the approach ramp from Strakonická and built a new one, drilled passages inside the bridge through which they stretched new prestressing cables or repaired road surfaces, railings and ledges.
Last year, during the reconstruction, an average of 59,300 cars crossed the bridge in the direction from Strakonická street to the Jižní spojka per day, which is 17 percent less than the normal situation. In the direction of Prague 5, the number of cars fell by six percent to 67,500 cars. “We have been preparing the repair for three years and this effort paid off, the traffic collapse did not occur in Prague. I believe that thanks to the thoughtfulness of the drivers, it will also run smoothly this year,” said Scheinherr.
The Barrand bridge from 1983 is part of the city ring road and has never been repaired. It is crossed by 140,000 cars daily, which makes it the busiest road in Prague.
