Valtellina on the shields. At Star Stays an important international acknowledgment among the great projects of the Alpine arc
Third place overall in the merit ranking drawn up by ARGE ALP for the project that promotes an “eco” renovation of reception facilities and the use of green energy to make Valtellina a pioneer of sustainable development in the Alps.
Milan, 11 January 2022 – “Starry Stays”, the powerful project officially launched in 2022 by the Media Valtellina Tourist Consortium which focuses on a profound renewal of tourism in the path of sustainability, opens the new year by announcing an important international recognition obtained in the competition announced last June by ARGE ALP, the International Working Community born in 1972 in order to regulate good neighborly relations and mutual collaboration between the territories of the Alpine arc.
This important organization operates through its members in Germany (Free State of Bavaria), Austria (Länder Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Salzburg), Italy (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Autonomous Province of Trento and the Lombardy Region) and Switzerland (Cantons Grisons, San Gallus and Ticino).
The scientific committee of ARGE ALP met in Vienna and assigned “Starred Stays”, which participated in the “major projects” section of the competition, the third place overall in the merit ranking with a difference of only two points (31 to 29) from the first classified ex aequo: the Bavarian “Emmi Mobil” and the Austrian “Eine Klima”.
Valtellina, which precisely with “Starred Stays” aims at a consistent renewal of its logic of hospitality and tourist offer, gets involved by condensing the best of innovation and sustainability in this project. An important commitment that paves the way for the Olympic Games but not only, as he underlines Marcella Pini, President of the Media Valtellina Tourist Consortium: “The Winter Olympics are not a point of arrival, but only an important step in a long-term journey in which we want to bring the territory to a level of global excellence. We are trying to help create a solid and united “Valtellina System”. The intent is to spread a team mentality in which the great ones such as “Starred Stays” are shared throughout the Valtellina area, to create beautiful perspectives, a unified image and a serious and efficient organizational structure.”
As you will recall, “Star Stays” was born in conjunction with the commitment made in 2021 by the Media Valtellina Tourist Consortium to become part of the signatories of the Lombard Protocol for Sustainable Development, a group of elite institutions, companies and financial institutions which will guide the territory of the Lombardy Region towards the future and the UN 2030 Objectives. The project, strongly oriented towards an “eco” renewal of the reception structures and the use of green energy, places sustainable mobility in a central position with the objective to make it a real lifestyle.
Marco Fojanini, the international designer “guru” thanks to whom the project took shape underlines how “sustainability must first of all coincide with a philosophy of life”. And he adds: “By attributing such a high score to our project (among other things, first among Italian projects), the scientific committee of ARGE ALP projects Valtellina among the territories destined to excel in the Alpine arc, one of the cornerstones in defense of biodiversity, the climate, social justice and the circular economy.
The President echoes him Marcella Pini who conclude: “As far as sustainable mobility is concerned, we already have excellent results in the bike sector, which is growing exponentially. We expect a considerable increase in sustainable tourism in the next five years (50%) from the “Starred Stays” project, and an enhancement of the figure of the tourist who will become a real partner with whom to share the love for the territory. In addition to this, we will have widespread benefits on the entire Valtellina community. This will allow many young people to have new opportunities in our area: in fact, it should not be forgotten that “Star Stays” is a project dedicated to young people, to the new generations who register to take up and manage the future challenges of the world.”
