It is a building located in the historic heart of Toulouse, whose construction dates back to 1593. At the start of 2023, the Hôtel Lestang, owned by the municipality, is about to experience a new destiny. The town hall has just put it up for sale.
In the Saint-Etienne district
This private mansion located rue Saint-Jacques, in the Saint-Etienne district, is representative of Toulouse buildings from the end of the 16the and beginning of the XVIIe century. Its construction was decided by the bishop Christophe de Lestang in the XVIe centurythe building remained in his family until 1857, when the town hall of Toulouse acquired it to install the rector and the services of the academy of Toulouse.
Since the rectorate has been located on the site of the former Niel barracks for a few years, the Hôtel Lestang has not been in use since 2015. Last March, the administrative court of appeal of Toulouse had settled in the most recent part (dated 1961) of the building, part state property.
An unoccupied and disused building
Last April, Sacha Briand, deputy mayor of Toulouse in charge of municipal and real estate assets, explained the reasons for the sale of the rest of the Lestang hotel – unoccupied and disused -, to Toulouse news.
“We studied the possibility of fitting out the Hôtel Lestang so that it could accommodate the public, but this turned out to be very complicated, particularly in terms of accessibility. For example, it is impossible to install an elevator”
A listed facade
These are therefore two bodies of buildings that the town hall is selling. The first, located to the right of the portal of honor represents an area of 179 m² on two levels. The second building, to the left of the portal of honor is 884 m². Its facade is inscribed with the supplementary inventory of historical monuments.
The sale of the Hotel de Lestang is done in sealed envelopes. Buyers likely to visit the premises each Monday morning between January 16 and February 20, 2023 (after registration). Takeover bids can be made until April 11, 2023.
A housing complex near the Demoiselles bridge
In addition to the Lestang hotel, the town hall is also selling a property complex located at 30 avenue de Saint-Exupéry, near the Demoiselles bridge.
The whole is 1125 m², with various courtyard rooms, offices, staff accommodation and even a performance hall.
Part of the building is occupied by a post office, on the ground floor. The property can be visited every Thursday between January 12 and February 9 (on registration by email [email protected]).
