The Prague Botanical Garden will offer a tour of tropical flowers and fruits
The world’s smallest water lily, which is new to the greenhouse, will soon also bloom. ČTK was informed about this today by the spokeswoman of the Prague Botanic Garden, Michaela Bičíková. Those interested can also come on guided night tours called The Jungle That Doesn’t Sleep.
“I would like to invite visitors to discover the hidden treasures of the tropics. Some plants bloom regularly in January, so now is a very good time to visit,” said Bohumil Černý, director of the Prague Botanical Garden. He added that by the pond you can now see the bold white flowers of the tropical hymenocalis bulb, and in the back of the tropical greenhouse, freycinetia, a climbing shrub with orange flowers that look like flaming, will soon be in bloom.
“We are also very happy with the smallest water lily, which we transplanted into the greenhouse at the end of last year. He will soon reward us with small flowers,” said Černý.
The dwarf water lily is the smallest water lily in the world and at the same time it is also among the rarest, this plant no longer exists in the wild. The Prague Botanical Garden is one of the few in which it can be seen.
Visitors to the Trojan Botanical Garden can, for example, see the red flowers of star anthurium in the first part of the greenhouse, which presents dry forests and semi-deserts, and in the tropical part they can see flowering anthuriums and fruits. On the shore of the lake, those interested can see hymenocalis bulb flowers, which are also pointed out by the guides during the evening tours. This plant is pollinated by lichen moths. During night tours, it is also possible to come across small frogs of the bezblank.
Evening guided tours are always held on Fridays and Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Participation must be booked in advance.
