Unemployment in Prague remained at 3 percent in December, vacancies increased

Unemployment in Prague was three percent in December, the same as in November. Almost 27,800 people were without work in the capital at the end of last year, about 140 more than in November. The number of vacant positions in the offer rose by roughly 900 to 76,000 month-on-month. The data was published by the Labor Office of the Czech Republic. In December last year, unemployment in the metropolis was 2.8 percent.
In the whole of the Czech Republic, unemployment rose to 3.7 percent, having stagnated at 3.5 percent in the previous three months. There were over 271,800 people registered with the employment offices in December, 14,600 more than a month earlier. Jobs decreased by roughly 3,300 compared to November, with employers offering over 288,600 of them.
Lower unemployment than Prague outside the three regions, in the Pardubice, Zlín and Pilsen regions, the unemployment rate was 2.9 percent. It was at three percent, just like in the metropolis, in the South Bohemian Region. On the contrary, the highest unemployment was reported by the Ústí Region, where 5.5 percent of people were without work.
In the metropolis at the end of last year, the office registered 27,766 job seekers. It was 141 more applicants than at the end of November. The number of offered positions in the capital rose by 920 to 76,045. There are thus an average of 0.4 applicants per vacant position in the capital. The districts of Prague – West (0.3), Mladá Boleslav and Prague – East (both 0.2) have a lower ratio. On the contrary, 11 people are applying for one place in Karvinska. The nationwide average is 0.9 applicants.
