“Eight years later, we are still Charlie”. Already eight years have been lost since the Islamist attacks that targeted the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo, as well as law enforcement, and the shop Hypercashier from the Porte de Vincennes in Paris. For the occasion, a tribute gathering was organized this Saturday, January 7, 2023 in the afternoon, place du Salin in Toulouseat the call of the Printemps Républicain Occitanie, the Licra, the Comité Laïcité République 31 and the Collectif du 11 Janvier.
The names of the 17 victims
Something 150 people gathered on the Place du Salin, where the organizers shed the names of the 17 victims who, in total, had been killed during this series of attacks which had caused a great stir in France. By their presence, they intended to mark “their refusal to be forgotten and cowardly compromises”, but also “their attachment to defending freedom of expression, and to refusing the anti-Semitism which continues to spread like a deadly poison”. “We want to remember that we do not forget”, testifies Guillaume Agulloone of the regional referents of the Republican Spring in Occitania.
Elected officials and personalities on site
Many elected officials were present (in particular the mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc, the vice-president of the county council Vincent Gilbertthe regional councilor Nathalie Mader)alongside other local personalities, such as the president of CRIF Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées, Frank Touboul.
