Sister Luisidia dies at 104, she saved Verona hospital laboratory from the Nazis
Born in Revine Lago, for 68 years she was the angel of the analysis laboratory of Borgo Trento in Verona, dean and head nurse for several generations of nurses, who grew professionally under her guidance: Sister Luisidia Casagrande, known simply as Sister Luisidia, disappeared a 104years of age, leaving an especially human void in what was his home for 68 years, the analysis laboratory of the Verona hospital.
Sr. Luisidia had entered the structure of Borgo Trento in October 1939 fresh from her diploma professional nurse, obtained thanks to the consent of his institute Sorelle della Misericordia of Verona in Valverde. At that time all analyzes were done manually; but the nun went through many decades of progress with her long life, until she was able to use the most modern technologies.
During the Second World War he obtained the liberation of the then primary laboratory which had been deported by the Nazis, and saved the entire structure with a ruse. In 1943, he hid the essential medical material for the analyzes in four naked. In this way, when the Germans abandoned the hospital which had been transformed into a military facility, the laboratory did not lose a single day of activity.
But the memory of Sister Luisidia is not linked only to the exceptional length of her service, the historian head nurse she is remembered by everyone and by the hospital for how she did it. “The test tube that arrives in the laboratory – she said – is actually a person who anxiously awaits an answer on his health and therefore on his life”. “Therefore – concluded Sister Luisidia – I have always considered the blood and the poor samples the whole symbol of the sick man”.
