Karłowicz, Prokofiev, Kabeláč, Scriabin. Music of mysterious stories
FOK dramaturg Martin Rudovský presents the program of the first January subscription concerts of the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
A Polish composer died in an avalanche in the High Tatras in 1909 Mieczysław Karłowicz. He thus paid with his life for his passion for mountain climbing and skiing. In addition to music, he also photographed mountains, published articles on mountain tourism, and was a pioneer of Polish mountaineering. From his musical legacy, the most important compositions include his Symphony “Rebirth”, the Violin Concerto in A major and six symphonic poems. His last opus is Sad story, Op. 13, that is Sad story. It is with this title that he will begin Symphony Orchestra m Prague FOK his other subscription concerts in the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 January 2023.

Then one of the most demanding concertante piano pieces will be heard, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 in G minor Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. He will perform a solo piece Yulianna Avdeeva, a pianist who became only the fourth woman to win the Warsaw Chopin Competition. This happened in 2010, and before her, the last female winner was Martha Argerich in 1965.
In the second half concert of the Prague Symphony Orchestra will be heard mystery of time a not yet fully appreciated work of European symphonic work of the 20th century from the pen of a Czech composer Miloslav Kabeláč, AND the symphonic poem Prometheus: A Poem of Fire by Alexander Scriabinin which this Russian composer tried to synthesize music and light effects.

What do all these works have in common and what is synesthesia, the gift that Alexander Scriabin possessed? The FOK dramaturg will reveal that too Martin Rudovsky. It will also clarify who will take care of the lighting design that will accompany Scriabin’s composition at the concerts on January 11 and 12, and why and how this entire dramaturgy of the concerts they will conduct Andrej Borejkoarose.
