From the very first days, Chisinau and Bucharest coordinated exemplary – Capital
The Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau, Cristian-Leon Turcanustated on Friday, January 6, that Russian aggression against Ukraine has also created problems for Republic of Moldovaand this “demonstrated once again the need and urgency of building the energy independence and resilience of the Republic of Moldova,” according to Radio Romania International.
“Romania has declared at all levels that it is ready to help the Republic of Moldova, including to deal with the difficulties in terms of electricity supply. This Russian aggression against Ukraine, the cynical attacks on the energy resources of Ukraine they produced very, very serious effects on the Republic of Moldova and demonstrated once again the need and urgency of building the independence and energy resilience of the Republic of Moldova,” nuanced the Romanian diplomat from Chisinau.
Moldovan citizens are well aware that electricity in the final months of 2022 came from Romania
“Indeed, it is essential to achieve new high-capacity interconnection limits of the electricity networks in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, an objective that is very important both in Bucharest and in Chisinau,” concluded the Romanian Ambassador.
Regarding “the perception in society of the support we give to the Republic of Moldova, the most recent opinion polls show a positive trend on all the parameters aimed at these aspects. The citizens of the Republic of Moldova are very aware that the electricity in the final months of 2022 came from Romania and I think that it is very clear to everyone that, without this unconditional support from Romania, this date would have looked uglier”, stated Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.
About Romania’s collaboration with the Republic of Moldova in the context of the war in Ukraine
Referring to the collaboration between Romania and Moldova in the context of the Russian military invasion against Ukraine, the Romanian diplomat stated the following:
“(…)We are all witnesses, I would say, of these particularly good collaborations. From the very first days, Chisinau and Bucharest coordinated in an exemplary manner, they worked together in terms of managing the flow of refugees, women, and children, citizens of Ukraine who fled the path of war. On a more political level, we have this initiative of the foreign ministers of Romania, Germany and France, launched in Berlin, the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova, which is an unprecedented multidimensional support tool from the international community for the Republic of Moldova.
After Berlin, we had the second ministerial conference of the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest, and the most recent one was in November, November 21, in Paris. This platform is essentially a support tool for the Republic of Moldova, precisely to deal with the complex crisis it is facing due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine; but, in parallel, also to advance on the path of European integration. And, here, the crises, I mentioned in passing just now, the humanitarian crises generated by the value of refugees, the economic crisis fueled by the loss of very important markets in the region, the energy crisis, which is a situation that has worsened since the fall of last year, but which was amplified by the effects of the war in Ukraine. In addition to all these things, we have excellent bilateral political and sectoral cooperation, which is maintained at a very, very high level,” stated Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.
