New discount offers for occasional users of buses and trains in Frankfurt
Mith more than seven million euros, the city subsidized single tickets and day tickets for local public transport last year. Since the beginning of the year, this money has been used to reduce fares for people in need, i.e. holders of the Frankfurt Pass. While they can now purchase season tickets for just 30 percent of the normal price, the tariffs for occasional trips have risen significantly.
Nevertheless, infrequent drivers can still travel cheaply with public transport. The RMV savings pass was introduced at the turn of the year: a discount card that works in a similar way to a rail card. It costs ten euros for a month and can be used in the entire area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) 25 percent discount on single and day tickets. A Frankfurt single ticket costs 2.55 euros (instead of 3.40) and a day ticket costs 5 euros (instead of 6.65). From the twelfth single trip or the seventh day ticket per month, the tickets are cheaper than regular single and day tickets. With the prepaid discount, which is available via the RMV-Go app, Frankfurt single tickets only cost 2.72 euros. In order to benefit from this 20 percent discount, a credit of at least 40 euros must first be topped up.
