Debrecen-born goalkeeper Éva Kiss has no regrets over the past thirty-five years
With the 103-time national team goalkeeper born in Debrecen a Little Land conducted an interview. As they say, his modesty today surpasses even that of those days.
It turned out that the last news about the handball player was just two years old, because it was then that his daughter, Eszter, was born. Éva Kiss said that Eszter is developing very nicely, she is trying more and more to get around on her own two feet. Good-natured, but sometimes willful. It turned out that they currently live in Győrújbarát, but he takes Eszter to daycare in Győr after she started going back to work after her middle age. The former player is currently a goalkeeper and representative of several age groups at Audi ETO. His weekdays are occupied by his coaching work, but with help he can solve the frequent trips to Győr. In addition to the matches of the domestic youth, it is natural that you can also watch today’s senior team on the weekends.
In the interview, he said that during his two-decade career, everything was on-site for him:
My first club in Debrecen, and then I had a good time in Veszprém as well, at Barabás. During my time in Siófok, I became a stable member of the national team, while at Alba in Fehérvár I was a member of a good community. Győr represented a completely different level, I could learn from good and excellent sportsmen, and here was the best team, thanks to which I could achieve success. My fondest memory in the national team is my first world competition, the 2012 European Championships in Serbia with the bronze medal I won there.
He emphasized that he has not erased anything from the past, as it made him the person he is now, and there is nothing to regret.
As a goalie, it turned out, his height gave me a big advantage, and that combined with my composure. Shooters often could not calculate how far his hands would reach. He always made sure to improve, because it’s easier to get to the top than to stay there. If a talent emerges but lets their defensive style be known, they quickly disappear into the sinkhole. You also need luck to get there, good teams and good coaches, and all the right opportunities and actions to be even better. He emphasized, he received the most from Imre Bíró in Debrecen, and then from Karl Erik Böhn, who was held in high esteem by everyone. He emphasized that sometimes he could have been more confident and decisive, and that the insanity, in a good sense, that can be seen after one of the feats of today’s goalkeepers was not characteristic of him either…
