Mesdames Danielle Delmaire and Monique Heddebaut present their work “Being Jewish in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais, 1939-1945”.
Due to the attachment of the two departments to the German military command in Brussels, the Jews experienced a particular fate: early censuses, first arrests, internment in prisons in Belgium, the great roundup of September 11, 1942 and deportation to Auschwitz by Mechelen in Belgium.
The North became a refuge zone for the Jews of Belgium and Paris, while in the Boulonnais area “Jewish camps” opened in the summer of 1942.
