Mannheim – The Adler Mannheim celebrate their third derby win of the season against the Löwen Frankfurt on Wednesday in the SAP Arena. The party was so exciting:
- DEL on Wednesday (January 4): Adler Mannheim beat Frankfurt Lions.
- The decision only comes in the penalty shootout – Krämmer shoots Mannheim to victory.
- For the Adler Mannheim it is already the third derby win this season.
The Adler Mannheim can do derbies! In the third duel of the season against the Löwen Frankfurt, coach Bill Stewart’s team leaves the ice as the winners – however, the blue-white-reds make it unnecessarily exciting. In the SAP Arena, which was sold out with 13,600 spectators, the Adler won 3:2 after a penalty shoot-out (1:1, 1:0, 0:1) on Wednesday evening.

Adler Mannheim wins derby thriller against Löwen Frankfurt
Matt Donovan (5th) starts after a great pass from Nigel Dawes. Seven minutes later, the lions respond: David Elsner (12th) is criminally left alone and overcomes Adler goalie Felix Brückmann. Despite several penalties in the middle section, the next goal does not come until the 38th minute. Defender Thomas Larkin unpacks the hammer and hammers the disc into the net from afar – 2-1 for Mannheim.
The last third is also intense. The lions actually managed to equalize again a few seconds before the final siren. Brett Breitkreuz (60th) forces overtime with his goal. The final decision comes in the penalty shootout. An exciting thriller also develops during the showdown. Nico Krämmer makes the decision and secures the additional point for the eagles. Break in the SAP Arena! That was an entertaining first third. The Mannheimers put a lot of pressure on in the early stages and were rewarded: Donovan (5th) made the Adler fans cheer. The first power play by the Frankfurt Löwen was not crowned with success, but immediately afterwards it was Elsner (12th) who scored to make it 1-1.
