Traditional Viennese music for the New Year’s Concert in Sao Paulo
Also this year was held in Vasto the New Year’s concert organized by the association Frederyk Chopin to recall the atmosphere of the traditional concert on 1 January which has been held in Vienna since 1939. For the first time the Vasto concert was welcomed by the church of San Paolo Apostolo. «Our association – explains the president Ivo Menna – he has been organizing the concert for over twenty yearson a date between December 29 and January 2, in collaboration with the Municipality of Vasto. The executions are hosted by the three churches of the historical centre. This year we thought that the populous San Paolo district should have received and hosted the International Symphony Orchestra».
In his introductory greetings Don Gianni Sciorra, parish priest of St. Paul the Apostle, underlined how «music can weave a thread of communion, given that today there are too many barbed wires in the world. There is a need for peace», he said, recalling the conflict in Ukraine which has been going on for almost a year now. But the beauty of music can help “reconcile the good things and the bad things that happen”. The mayor Francesco Menna recalled that “this concert is by now a tradition of the city”, promoted by the association of Ivo Menna “which has been promoting events of great cultural value for forty years”.
Space then for the protagonism of the music, with the orchestras of theInternational Symphony Orchestradirected by Master Leonardo Quadriniwhich proposed a repertoire starting from Bellini’s Norma, passing through Verdi, Puccini, Shostakovich, to then arrive at classics pieces that characterize the New Year’s concert in Vienna, especially those of the various members of the Strauss family. Surprise ending, with the conductor’s baton surrendered for the Radetzky March a Charles Della Porta, historic organizer of opera events in Casalbordino who, with his sympathy, has involved orchestral players and the public. Everyone stood up for the inevitable Mameli anthem and then the encore, loudly requested by the spectators, which closed the evening of music.
