Criminals arrested, major investigations initiated, significant amounts of weapons and drugs seized
Increased exchange of data between the Republic of Moldova and Europol, considerable amount of drugs, ammunition and firearms seized, as well as the initiation of cross-border operations that have the possibility of forecasting and strategic decision-making processes in Chisinau.
These are some of the following obtained after the inauguration in Chisinau, in the summer of 2022, of a European Union Hub for Internal Security and Border Management, a platform for the creation of data, the concentration of the necessary resources and the creation of the information cycle.
In a report presented by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ana Revenco, it is shown that during the half-year existence of the Hub, the Republic of Moldova approved the Concept of the focal point for the first firearms, arrested 12 criminals, initiated four investigations and increased data exchange with Europol through the SIENA channel by more than 25%.
“Thanks to the knowledge shared at the Hub meetings, investigative officers from several EU countries have established links with the leadership of the EU Hub for Internal Security and Border Management, which underlines the need to institutionalize it, with a team dedicated to operational cooperation. (…) The bilateral knowledge and contacts acquired during the four meetings laid the foundations for border works, they have cross-border processes and they have the opportunity to make strategic and synergistic decisions”, said Minister Ana Revenco.
We mention that, within the EU Security Hub in Chisinau, representatives of the EU states within the national internal affairs systems, together with employees in the internal affairs system of the Republic of Moldova, are developing strategies to counter the trafficking of weapons, drugs and individuals, terrorism and other organized crime activities that push the borders of states bordering on war.
