Watch out for these trends in 2023
The spring and summer season offers, among other things, large statement roses, lots of denim and colors inspired by the sun.
2022 was the year of “barbiecore”, cowboy boots and the miniskirt – to name a few. Towards the end of the harvest season it also emerged a trend we will most likely also see a lot of in 2023.
This year’s Christmas party is full of transparent garments – preferably with a sparkling touch, and the party season was just the beginning.
It is very likely that the clear-cut trend will stay with us in the new year. Not only based on what we see in social media, but several designers have banked on this in their spring and summer collections for 2023.
But what other trends might we have to watch out for in 2023? We’ve taken a look at what the designers believe in for the coming season.
A dance on roses
After a long and dark winter, we want color and life! That colors and patterns find their way into the trend image towards ours is nothing new. What is new, however, is that the clothes must now be decorated with large, eye-catching flowers!
Carolina Herrera is among the designers who have put a lot of emphasis on this. In her SS23 collection, we saw several of the models wearing garments with large roses on them.
Dries Van Noten is also on the floral trend.
In their collection, we also saw that some of the models had been made up with a rather eye-catching eyeliner. Maybe a make-up trend worth noting for the new year?
Loewe also believes in flowers for us, but not necessarily the big roses. On their catwalk, several of the garments had a flamingo flower on them! And yes, it was just as funny as the name of the flower.
Nice fryer
Fringes help to create an incredibly fine movement in a garment, and several designers are unique about that. On the catwalk, it has the spice of fringed garments – both dresses, bags and other accessories.
When you think of fringes, it’s probably more people who come to imagine suede jackets and cowboy boots. This spring and summer, however, it is the more festive fringes that apply.
Designers such as Acne Studios, Victoria Beckham and Jil Sander many fringes play a small, but at the same time important, role in their looks. See photos from their screenings above.
Fringe is an excellent way to add and dress up that little something extra.
What’s also funny about this trend is that you can easily fix or breathe new life into an old garment by sewing on some fringe. We like to be inspired by the Norwegian designer Cathrine Børter and the blazers she created for her brand.
Fjong in colors
After a long, cold and dark winter, where many like to use a color palette that matches, we look forward to welcoming warmer and stronger colors.
One of the color trends that stand out are the ones you often see in both sunrises and sunsets. The designers have simply been inspired by the fact that the sun shines longer and that warmer days are on the way.
And what goes hand in hand with a sunset? Yes, beautiful, blue sea. If the designers get their way, different shades of blue will have a big place in our image.
The color should preferably be used from head to toe in one and the same outfit. In 2022, it was bright pink that mattered, but now blue is also hot.
Here it is also possible to hit trends in one fell swoop. If you go for a blue denim look, you will get to test out the trends that are predicted to be big in 2023.
Colors will always be an important part of the fashion image, so you will probably see a bit of everything this coming season. However, Acne Studios believes that the icy pastels will become important.
In other words: If you were looking to try some new colors, these three trends might be worth noting.
Denim dominance
Denim is by no means a new trend in fashion. A nice pair of jeans or an oversized denim jacket is something that comes back season after season.
What makes the denim trend extra special this season is that you want to style the denim layers in layers.
Don’t settle for jeans, but go with a jacket, top and shoes that match. This creates an eye-catching outfit.
During fashion week in Copenhagen, we saw a lot of denim looks in particular. Not all consisted of denim from head to toe, but here you just have to go for what you want. These garments can be styled in many different ways.
Most likely, the big spring trench is already hanging in your wardrobe.
Inspiration from icon
Are you ready to test out hooded dresses? This trend is already well underway among celebrities, so don’t ignore the fact that it will grow beyond the spring and summer season.
Many may think of singer, actress and eternal fashion inspiration Grace Jones when they see these plagues. She has been faithful to this trend for a long, long time.
In 1985 we saw her on the catwalk for Alaïa, and the year before she posed with Roger Moore and Tanya Roberts on the set of “A View to a Kill”.
Jones, who is now 74 years old, still uses hooded garments. A striking look many designers have been inspired by the spring and summer season for 2023.
During fashion week in Paris, Saint Laurent showed off a number of strong looks. Among them we found super long coats and some of the model had been styled with dresses with hoods. Proper Grace Jones vibes!
Model Gigi Hadid also wore a hooded dress during Milan Fashion Week. The designer behind the outfit is Donatella Versace.
Although the hooded trend can be used in several garments, it is the dresses that have fallen into the most favor among the stars.
Recently, we saw Michaela Coel at the premiere of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” wearing a sparkly hooded look.
Rihanna was early on to be inspired by Grace Jones, and even got to wear a dress designed by the same fashion designer that Grace Jones wore on the catwalk in 1985, namely Alaïa.
Well, it just remains to be seen if it will be as popular away from the red carpet.
Vintage shearling
This may be a trend that is especially aimed at us in cold Scandinavia, but sheepskin is and will be a winner this season and the next.
At the fashion weeks in Paris, Milan and Copenhagen, we saw IT girls and models wearing the trend in different ways. The classic vintage aviator jacket with the combination of smooth leather and fluffy sheepskin, the teddy jacket, but also the waistcoat.
This is a trend that is also very practical in the cold, so we are looking forward to using warm jackets with that little extra in 2023 as well.
PS: Here you can really make a used bargain if you search on Finn.no, Etsy and Fretex. Our experience is that sheepskin jackets of good quality just get finer and finer over the years.
