Done! Sor will transfer to Genk, Slavia has monetized her very well during the year
Yira Sor was the absolute sensation of the spring season. Slavia bought him from Baník and he then arranged two procedures in the Conference League as a reward. But now is the best time to sell it.
Slavia wrestled with Sparta for Sora, and Leten eventually withdrew from the transfer battle. In the end, the stitchers sent 30 million crowns to Ostrava and it was a hit.
The Nigerian attacker adapted very well and by 16.1. He performed brilliantly in Turkey, occupying the opponent’s defense with his tireless runs and contributing to a 3:2 win with an assist.
At home, they prepared a gala performance, when they managed a 3:2 win again with two goals. Even in the next round, Sor shined. Against LASK Linz, he first scored 2 goals at home in a 4:1 win, and in the return he flashed with a wonderful assist, when he sprinted past the opponent with a tremendous top.
In the quarter-final against Feyenoord, he was remembered again when he contributed to the opening 3-3 draw in the Netherlands with a goal and an assist. In 6 spring games of the Conference League, he collected 6 goals and 3 assists.
But while he shone in Europe, he did not do so well in the domestic league. Against Slavia, the vast majority of opponents pulled back and “concreted” in front of their goal, so Sor was lost in these matches. He had nowhere to run his long legs, and with his height, her centers didn’t find much.
It must be said that coach Jindřich Trpišovský knew this well and Sor did not get that much time in Fortuna. He played 10 games in the spring, in which he scored a single goal.
In the summer, it looked like the European Sor would shine again. He hit twice in the first game against St.Joseph’s, but then came a mysterious injury that sidelined him for most of the fall.
In addition, the hurried return did not help at all, and Sor did not play practically anything in the autumn, and if he did, it was certainly not the lightning from the spring. The style of the opponents did not help him at all, where Slavia overwhelmingly played in closed defense, this time also in Europe.
Here it is necessary to go back to the summer when Slavia received an offer from Genk for Sora. The Belgian club offered 8 million euros (approx. 194 million crowns) plus lucrative bonuses. After half a year of decent business, when Slavia brought her in January for 30 million crowns.
The management agreed, but coach Trpišovský stopped the whole transaction. He believed that Sor had an even greater potential, and if he was successful in the fall, he would leave for an even greater start. But unfortunately, injuries and a drop in performance threw this plan.
However, Slavia need not be so sad, as another offer has arrived from Genk. Logically lower, but not by that much. The Belgians now 6.5 million euros (approx. 157 million crowns), which is still an extremely favorable deal. Slavia took a risk that didn’t work out for them, but that’s also part of football.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t, remember Tomáš Souček, who received an offer from Fiorentina for 2 million euros and many wondered why Slavia didn’t sell her. A few transfer seasons later, Souček broke the Czech transfer record when West Ham spent 21 million euros.
But in the case of Sora, it’s different. The Nigerian speedster is not a player for the Czech league. In order to shine, he needs to play in an open defense, matches that spill from one side to the other, just like Slavia in the spring in Europe. Not in the Czech league, where 90% of the teams lie in their own goal and wait.
For this reason, Slavia should have sold Sora as soon as possible, although the interest in monetizing him even more is understandable. Considering that the red and whites will not be playing in the cups in the spring and only the league awaits them, it is completely logical to sell Sora as soon as possible, before his value drops even more.
