Debrecen – Three ministers and a government commissioner instructed the government to propose a solution and provide resources for it.
The government made an important decision from the point of view of Debrecen’s water base. According to the decision in the Magyar Közlöny, signed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, the government agrees to supply the demand for industrial water in the Southern Economic Zone of Debrecen and the Northwestern Economic Zone from purified wastewater or non-drinking quality water.

The government calls on the Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos to examine the method, conditions and funding requirements for the implementation of this goal with the involvement of the Minister of Economy and Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó, the Minister of Finance Mihály Varga, István Joó, the Government Commissioner responsible for investment investments and the implementation of priority large-scale investments in Hungary, and the Debrecen County Municipality, and then propose to the government the government measures necessary to achieve the goal and the provision of funds.
According to the decision, the investigation must be completed on February 28, 2023, and the proposal for implementation and funding must be submitted to Energy Minister Csaba Lantos by March 31.
As is known, the city used significantly more water in 1980 than now. At that time, the city’s daily water consumption was close to 90,000 cubic meters (only the cannery used 30,000 cubic meters of water per day), and now the daily water consumption is 40,000 cubic meters. In Debrecen, 70,000 cubic meters of underground water can be used per day (according to the law, no more can be extracted than what is produced), and 30,000 cubic meters of water are available from the Keleti Main Canal, i.e. a total of 100,000 cubic meters – the Civaqua program can improve this.
Mayor László Papp previously spoke several times about that
are working to meet a significant part of the water demand of the debrec plants from gray water, i.e. treated wastewater, and are now providing support to the government for this.
The Krones and Vitesco Technologies factories, the Deufol plant and the logistics center of BHS Trans Kft. are already operating in the Southern Economic Zone. Semcorp’s separator film factory will soon be completed, as well as the Chinese Halms plant. The Debrecen plant of the South-Korea EcoPro BM will be built there, and according to plans, the larger bus factory of ITK Holding and the battery factory of the Chinese CATL will also be built there.
BMW is building a car factory in the Northern Economic Zone, which will be expanded with a battery assembly plant, BMW suppliers will be able to accommodate BMW suppliers on several hundred hectares.
