Index – Belföld – A fifty-kilogram Soviet aerial bomb was found at the Citadel
The soldiers of the regiment, under the leadership of ensign Tibor Gyurits, fireman patrol commander, neutralized the 50-kilogram Soviet aerial bomb shown in the pictures in a closed construction area near the Citadel in Budapest, the MH 1st Honvéd Fireman and Naval Regiment announced on its social page on Wednesday.
After the detonator was removed, the bomb body was transported to the central collection point of the Hungarian Defense Forces for later destruction. There was no need to introduce police restrictions during the firefighting operation.
In a statement at the beginning of December, the fire engineer regiment of the Hungarian Armed Forces informed that this year already more than 1,800 cases they alerted the fire departmenttypically for World War II devices.
They added that in November, for example, the fire department received 106 reports, of which 27 cases had to be dealt with immediately. In November, firefighters handled more than 150 explosive devices of military origin with a total weight of almost 600 kilograms.
Most recently, a 500-kilo one from World War II American air bomb were found in the Petroleum Bay in Csepel, which was found by the workers of a dredger while cleaning the bed. The explosive device December 22 (Thursday) they will neutralize it on the spot, during which time the affected area will be closed in a radius of about 800 meters in the late evening hours.
