The Brno branch of ABB supplied the control system and switchgear for the incinerator in London
LondonEnergy’s London incinerator, serving nearly 2 million people and using waste to produce sustainable energy, is using ABB equipment to extend its life and increase performance. The delivery of the UniGear control system and switchgear from Brno covers the operation of 4 older and one new generator. The sophisticated contract ranks among other international projects that create new jobs. ABB from Brno is currently looking for dozens of new colleagues for a job position – from control system engineers, designers and project managers to electromechanics and production operators.
The comprehensive Zenon ZEE600 system now controls five generators at a London waste incinerator operated by LondonEnergy. The total output of LondonEnergy’s waste incinerator is comparable to one of the turbines of the giant Dlouhá stráně pumped hydroelectric power plant. Compared to the waste incinerator in Brno, the London one is approximately four times larger.
“The order is so far the most complex supply of digital systems units that we have implemented from Brno,” stated Oleksiy Melnyk, director of the Digital Systems Unit, adding: “The original historic control center containing sheet metal panels with a number of diodes, ammeters, switches and others was replaced thanks to the Zenon ZEE600 system by several monitors.” ABB supplies as part of the delivery of a major British contractor, Hornbill.
The extensive ABB plant in Brno, which has been in operation for 135 years and employs almost 2,000 people, consists of seven separate units on two campuses. This includes the largest plant for the production of high-voltage switchgear in Europe.
