Hanover. The discounter Netto will close its branch on Hildesheimer Strasse in the Döhren district of Hanover at the end of 2023. The company confirmed this when asked by this editorial team. The rumor had previously made the rounds in the district – and called the CDU MP in the Döhren-Wülfel district council into action. Above all, they fear disadvantages for senior citizens.

“We have heard that the net market is to be abandoned in November 2023 for economic reasons,” says CDU politician Natascha Erdmann. Many residents are very concerned. A large number of older people lived in the vicinity of the market, “who are not able to cover long distances to shop,” emphasizes Erdmann in a letter to the city administration. Many of them can still manage their household independently, but are out and about with a walker. The supermarket is 3.2 kilometers away on Karlsruher Strasse.
Is there a new grocery store?
The reason for the closure of the Netto store, which opened in 2009, is the small and no longer up-to-date sales area of 370 square meters, explains Christina Stylianou, Head of Corporate Communications at Netto, when asked. There are no opportunities for expansion at the site. Netto currently operates 25 branches in the city of Hanover.

District council member Erdmann fears that the closure of the branch will result in a supply gap for the Döhren district. They therefore want to know from the city administration whether there are already plans for the property – and whether another grocer could possibly move in.
There will be answers to the questions of the CDU politician at the district council meeting on Thursday, December 8th, from 6 p.m. in the Döhren leisure center. In addition, the committee will discuss the WLAN disruptions in Mittelfeld, illegal parking and the renovation of Landwehrstrasse that evening, among other things.
