Salzburg: Power failure ahead of the Lahm district
timeline
On Tuesday evening, a power failure paralyzed a large part of Salzburg-Itzling for two hours: Not only was the electricity gone in around 1,400 households, but street lighting and traffic lights also stopped working. People got stuck in the elevator.
Around 5.15 p.m., according to the Salzburg AG energy supplier, the power went out in the affected households and companies in the Itzling district. The supply was interrupted for a total of 1,400 customers. According to eyewitness reports, it was not only dark in the houses, but also on the streets: for example, in the Reimsstraße/Goethestraße area, both the street lighting and the traffic lights went out. Traffic jams were the result.
In addition, people got stuck in elevators: six elevator openings were necessary to free those trapped, said the professional fire brigade on ORF request.
Smoke development and disturbance in substation
The cause of the failure was a technical fault in a substation on Schopperstrasse in Itzling, named by Salzburg AG. The defect caused a lot of smoke, added the professional fire brigade. You have to ventilate the building so that the Salzburg AG employees can die in the station.
The technicians worked flat out to repair the damage: around 7.15 p.m. the supply was working normally again, all areas had electricity, according to the energy supplier. According to the Salzburg magistrate, all necessary restarts should be completed by 9:00 p.m.
Short-term problems also in other parts of the city
Parallel to the power outage in Itzling, there were also problems in other parts of the city of Salzburg: according to eyewitness reports, the lighting in a supermarket in the ZIB shopping center in Salzburg-Schallmoos temporarily went out, the ATMs also stopped working, only the emergency lighting was in operation . The power supply was quickly restored here. There were also a few shorter failures in Salzburg-Leopoldskron or Liefering – but only for a few seconds.
