RFU Secretary General: Russia wants to participate in tournaments under the auspices of UEFA
Maxim Mitrofanov, Secretary General of the Russian Football Union, shared his opinion on the situation with the possible transfer of the RFU to the Asian Football Confederation.
“I am not the president of the executive committee, but it seems to me that the RFU Alexander Dyukov explains the reasons quite clearly and in detail. One of the public functions of clubs and national teams is participation in international competitions. At the moment, due to the decision of FIFA, which is based on the decision of UEFA, we do not have such opportunities. The reason for this is that a number of European teams are not ready to take part in competitions with the RFU. This cannot go on for long. If you are chosen between those who take part in international competitions or not, then you have heard the theses of the President of the Russian Federation and the head coach of the national team. It is logical to play than not. This is an occasion to consider the issue if UEFA is not ready to return us in the near future.
We have an understanding of how long the transition process can take. The RFU does not necessarily want to participate in UEFA and wants to restore its participation in an international event under the auspices of the European association, in which we are. But we are well aware of the nuances. Accordingly, we must look at how to respond, ”Sport24 quotes Mitrofanov.
