Apollokino – Discover Hanover …
The Apollo cinema on the Limmerstrasse I am District Linden North offers space for 201 visitors and classic 35mm as well as modern digital projection.
A house with a lot of tradition. In September 2008, the Apollo celebrated its 100th birthday, making it one of the implementation cinemas in Germany. It was created in 1908 from the former Sander dance hall. At first there were silent films with accompanying music, from the beginning of the 1930s sound films could also be shown. In November 1944, a bomb hit the house next door and made it impossible to play. But just two months after the end of the war, on July 24, 1945, it was reopened.
In the 1970s, the Apollo cinema, like many others, made ends meet with sleazy films. The student Achim Flebbe, who was already a film enthusiast at the time, asked the owner Henk ter Horst if he could make a few film suggestions. The nice older gentleman let the students have their way and the idea of offering sophisticated entertainment from then on was born. The primarily student audience honored the new concept and the last district cinema in Hanover was saved.
