Prague and the Central Bohemian region are ready for winter PRAGUE | News
The road workers from Prague and Central Bohemia have already made a few trips this season. Thanks to their understated preparation, they were not surprised even by the first snowfall or morning frosts. And not even in locations such as Rožmitálsko or Berounsko, which are known for their hilly terrain, in which dozens of drivers have problems every year.
“For us as road workers, the winter season officially starts on November 1 every year, which means that we have equipment ready, or rather our suppliers have equipment ready, and in case it is necessary to go out into the field, they are ready, they have a sprinkler ready material – both road salt and inert material. We take care of 8.5 thousand kilometers of roads, we treat 5,800 kilometers with road salt, the rest are treated with inert soil, we do not treat about 300 kilometers of roads at all,” said Petra Kučerová, press spokesperson of the Communist Party of Central Bohemia .
You can find a list of these places at www.dopravniinfo.cz. The capital city also has a winter maintenance plan ready from November 1.
“Prague is ready for winter, as always, from November 1, when the maintenance of winter roads begins, and in particular the Prague Public Service must prepare both its vehicle fleet, by which I mean large spreaders, but also dozens of pieces of smaller cleaning equipment and in a wide range of e.g. . . . manual workers, sweepers who are available in case of snow,” said Radim Mana, press spokesman for Prague Services.
“The winter maintenance plan clearly defines the competencies of individual workers or our suppliers, when we have the roads divided into order. From the first order, which are the main routes that we still have divided into A and B, we clean these roads within two hours from the announcement of the exit and up to four hours and then we have second and third order communications, those times are longer there. We also have non-motorized communications and it is in this plan that everything is clearly defined, we also have full salt warehouses where we have twenty-four thousand tons of salt and roughly three thousand tons of brine, which is a solution that sprinkles like salt,” said Barbora Lišková, press spokesperson for the Prague City Council.
Standard winter maintenance is not carried out on some roads in the capital, especially bridges.
“We have a special automatic sprinkler system in Prague, we have it in 6 locations, for example the Wilson road, the just mentioned Bulgar, where there was often ice on this road. Then there are other bridges and flyovers, for example the Vysočanská flyover and another, the Southern link at the Rope Bridge. The maintenance on bridges is special,” said Barbora Lišková, press spokesperson for TSK head. m of Prague.
Both in Prague and in the Central Bohemia region, the winter maintenance plan is valid until the end of March next year.
