Asvel – Monaco: Villeurbanne wants to compete despite its difficulties
Asvel receives Monaco Thursday at the Astroballe, in Euroleague basketball. Weakened by mixed results, TJ Parker’s team will have to outdo themselves to win and avoid last place.
But this season, the balance of power seems to have reversed. The only two tricolor teams engaged in the best European competition have (for the moment) opposite trajectories. If Monaco occupies a good fifth place, Asvel stagnates in a worrying penultimate position…
The Villeurbannais reassured themselves a little on Sunday by winning against Pau-Lacq-Orthez, ending a series of five defeats in all competitions, but there is still work to be done, according to the winger David Lighty :
“Our problem is to manage to keep our level, because we have good times. Even when we lost against Dijon, we scored 90 points! So knowing how to prolong those moments when you do things well: that’s where you’re lacking. But you know, every season there are ups and downs, it’s like a roller coaster. So, we have to keep fighting, talking to each other, working on the video, rehearsing the shots… We have played basket all our lives and we know what we are capable of. We just have to stay confident.“
Asvel – Monaco, 11th day of the Euroleague: kick-off at 8 p.m., Thursday 1 December at the Astroballe.
