The works of Alena Ladová can be seen in the Vyšehrad Gallery PRAGUE | News
On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the death of the painter and illustrator Alena Ladová, her first solo exhibition is being held in Prague after almost fifty years. The works can be seen in the Vyšehrad Gallery.
“Here you can see her free work, her book illustrations, then her small personal drawings, family photos, book titles, illustrations for books, her bust and, as the icing on the cake, a picture of Josef Lada when he was portrait of Alena,” said Josef Lada Jr., son of Alena Ladová.
“As part of Alena Ladová’s exhibition after 50 years in Prague, we said that we would of course like to emphasize the winter theme and Christmas within that period, but we also wanted to show a cross-section of the entire work here. Alena Ladová is actually like in the shadow of her famous father Josefa Lady, at the same time, she has a lot to do with people and it’s a shame that it should be hidden,” said Martin Lada, Alena Ladová’s grandson.
Alena Ladová’s childhood is closely connected with the location of the exhibition, as she was born near Vyšehrad.
“Ms. Ladová and her father Josef Lada lived in Podskalí for a certain period of their lives, so not far from Vyšehrad. In addition, Ms. Ladová did not have an exhibition in Prague for a long time, and this year’s 30th anniversary of her death seems like an ideal opportunity to present her work in Vyšehrad. because we can’t even imagine a traditional Christmas without the paintings of Josef and Alena Ladová,” said Petr Kučera, director of the Vyšehrad National Cultural Monument.
The exhibition will be on display in the gallery until January 8.
