Prague – České Radiokomunikace is preparing to build the largest data center in the Czech Republic. It will be built by the outgoing radio transmitters in Prague-Zbraslav. It will have a capacity of over 2,000 server places (racks) and an input of 25 megawatts. It should be finished next spring, they want to put the center into operation at the turn of 2024 or 2025. In an interview with ČTK, the CEO of České Radiokomunikací Miloš Mastník stated this.
This is the sixth data center that the company will operate. The biggest facility so far is in Žižkov, Prague, with 500 server locations. In addition, České Radiokomunikace has a backup data center in Strahov and further on in Brno, Ostrava and Pardubice.
The construction of the center is not the only strategic investment that the company is planning under the new owner. “We are currently looking around for acquisitions on the Czech market, but also in neighboring countries that would make sense for us. The primary focus should be telecommunications or data infrastructure providers. We currently have several targets selected,” said Mastník.
Last year, České Radiokomunikace was bought from Macquarie Asset Management by Cordiant Digital Infrastructure, which is traded on the main market of the London Stock Exchange. Mastník has been the general director of České Radiokomunikaci since the beginning of this July, before that he was the company’s sales director.
The director stated that the company has billions of crowns at its disposal for purchases. According to Mastník, this is his own finances in combination with the owner’s investment funds and bank loans. The company is targeting operators of data centers, cloud or network owners. On the contrary, the company is not interested in content providers, for example media or software companies.
“Our new owner, which is the Cordi Digital Infrastructure funds, we can look at long-term development, therefore we can afford investment or acquisitions with a return of ten years or more,” Mastník.
At the same time, the company continues to invest in the development of its own Internet of Things network. It currently covers 98 percent of the population in the Czech Republic through LoRaWan technology.
