The pirates are holding back the formation of the Prague coalition and may lose everything
It is a shame for the capital city that its representatives cannot agree on the formation of a coalition that would lead it in the next four years. At the same time, it is so simple, TOGETHER for Prague (ODS, TOP 09, KDU-ČSL) has 19 mandates, Piráti 13 and STAN five mandates. Together, this amounts to 37 deputies out of 65, i.e. a comfortable majority. The Central Bohemian Region and Prague are neighbors and are connected by many ties, which is why I, as a Central Bohemian, am not indifferent to the situation in the metropolis over the Vltava river.
It is therefore incomprehensible why a coalition on the ground plan of the government cannot be formed in Prague, when the prerequisites are there for everyone. In addition, České Budějovice, for example, proved that such a town hall coalition can be assembled comfortably. The problem lies in the unsatisfied ambitions of some people, especially the current mayor Zdenek Hřiba from Pirátů, who probably cannot accept the loss of his post. However, he should respect the results of free and democratic elections, and in the end his party would end up in third place. Instead, however, the Pirates created an incomprehensible group together with the Praha Sobě movement.

At the same time, no one needs this association of Jan Čižínský for anything. People well remember the nonsensical ideas that Praha Soba came up with, for example, that restaurateurs would have to open their toilets for free to all interested parties. This is blatant communist thinking where public service problems are to be solved by commanding private entrepreneurs. So it is not surprising that Prague’s SPOLU does not want to cooperate with this movement. In addition, it has major programmatic contradictions with it in other areas as well, for example in key transport.
I don’t understand what rational reason the Pirates have for stubbornly insisting on cooperation with the Praha Sobě movement. I don’t see any there. Zdeněk Hřib seems to me like a poker player who plays vabank: either everything or nothing. However, the second option can easily occur. I am not surprised that SPOLU leader and candidate for mayor Bohuslav Svoboda has already given the Pirates a clear deadline for deciding if they want to be in a coalition with the winning Prague entity. Otherwise, it may happen that they will not be in the city management at all. I admit that such an option would not please me at all. However, as they say, those who can’t help themselves can’t be helped.
