The ball stops in Debrecen because of the environmentally destructive Chinese battery factory – Nyugati Fény
The environmental safety of the city and the health of the residents cannot be a matter of money.
Although the city administration claims that the factory, which uses a thousand cubic meters of water per hour, will not affect the water supply of the city, which is poor in surface water, the majority of the residents of Debrecen still find the environmentally polluting Chinese mega-investment outrageous. All this is supported by Civil Forum Debrecen Association survey also, which shows that the majority of the locals are not happy with the Chinese project.
On Friday Péter Szijjártó Minister of Foreign Affairs: the already under construction BMW factory in Debrecen
they even solve it with a battery assembly plant.
“The total value of the project thus reaches HUF 800 billion, making it the third largest green field investment in the history of Hungary”
– MTI quoted Szijjártó.
The Civil Forum Debrecen Association undertook to represent the opinion of the majority in the case of the Chinese battery factory to be established, as we believe that the city cannot be governed against the will of the people of Debrecen – the association wrote in a statement sent to the debrecenip.hu portal.
As is well known, the government and the local government want to bring Hungary’s largest investment under the roof in the South Industrial Park in Debrecen, which investment decision became public on August 9, 2022. As they wrote, neither the residents of Debrecen nor the local government representatives were involved in the decision in any way before this date, citing business interests.
According to the Civil Forum Debrecen Association
the environmental safety of the city and the health of the people of Debrecen cannot be a matter of money.
It was announced: therefore, the association primarily undertakes a mediating role in order to jointly determine the conditions for the operation of the Chinese battery factory.
According to his statement, the aquifer is sufficient, but the authority will issue an opinion on environmental hazards
they did not want to answer questions about Asian workers.
“It was felt in the city that these answers would not have dispelled the concerns, but the excessive propaganda, which related to the dimensions of the investment, rather incited fear. Our association was puzzled by the situation that instead of mutual communication,
the decisions were made over the heads of the people of Debrecen”
— wrote the Civil Forum, adding that they follow their own path and keep a distance from all parties, because they see that this diverts attention from the real problems.
“First of all, we call on the mayor’s leadership and Debreceni Vagyonkezelő Zrt. not to enter into sales contracts with the Chinese investor regarding the property, as this is in line with the will of the people of Debrecen”
— announced the Civil Forum Debrecen Association.
In addition to these, they said: they will do more to ensure that the General Assembly discusses the case of the Chinese battery factory again. If this is rejected, they will take every opportunity to protest.
