Prague pickpockets: The police have caught a couple who are responsible for 16 thefts
The cage fell! The police finally caught two hyenas who were traveling to Prague to rob senior citizens. “The Hunt” looked like this. After the men checked into one of the Prague hostels upon arrival, they immediately set off for the center. They mainly chose older fellow citizens who carefree traveled by means of public transport,” described police spokesman Jan Rybanský.
Thieves mainly focused on bags, purses or backpacks. They spotted the victim and then followed him unobtrusively. “In the rush or the extra moment, they didn’t even push for it, and one of the worthy pair began to unobtrusively search the contents of the luggage, at the same time the other watched the surroundings and covered his partner’s back,” said the spokesperson. This happened mainly when getting on or off the subway or tram.
Criminal investigators managed to identify both men, they did not respond to the written summons. When one of them was called upon, he sent a policeman “into the proper midst.” Finally, the man was caught in the act on October 30 in the field. “The two suspects were recognized by criminal investigators on a train bound for Florenc, and they also documented an attempt to rob an elderly woman as she was getting off the subway. In this case, they used a modified jacket for the robbery. Theirs was a matter of a few moments,” said Rybanský.
It became clear that the two men are quite experienced in the “field”, having stolen in this way in the past in the Czech Republic and abroad. “While one was sentenced to community service in 2022 for property crime, the other’s probation for a similar crime ended in 2018,” added the spokesperson.
