The Nikolajka winter stadium in the fifth district of the city has ceased operation, the previous management of Prague 5 announced in August that they had managed to find an investor not only for a temporary replacement for the stadium, but also for a long-term solution in the form of a permanent ice rink. After the September elections, the management of the town hall changed, the former coalition is in the opposition. The new management wants a temporary area of a maximum of the city district as soon as possible, and also supports the construction of a new stadium. At a recent meeting with journalists, the deputy mayor of Prague 5 Monika Shaw Salajová informed about this SEN 21).
The owner of the traditional winter stadium in Smíchov, which is the company NIKO Praha, announced before the summer holidays that it would not renew the ice in the fall. The management of Prague 5 announced in the summer that it managed to find an investor not only for a temporary replacement for the stadium, but also for a long-term solution in the form of a new permanent ice rink.
The implementation of the temporary area should be completed in three to six months, depending on the choice of construction technology, they are estimated at 15 to 32 crowns. The stadium would be more demanding in terms of time and money. The negotiated investor was supposed to be the company Fermstav represented by businessman Slavomír Pavlíček, who co-founded the game studio Bohemia Interactive.
By preliminary agreement, two suitable plots of land in Jinonice were selected. Their owner is the capital city of Prague.

At its last pre-election meeting in September, the previous Prague council discussed a petition for the provision of municipal land for the Prague 5 plan to build a temporary sports ground and subsequently a new stadium in cooperation with a private investor.
At the same time, the representatives decided that the capital would provide the land to the fifth district. However, the implementation has not yet progressed.
“I will support the creation of a replacement temporary ice rink in Prague 5 as soon as possible, so that clubs have a place to play sports and public skating is available to the public. However, I have to get to know the project in detail in general, it will have priority,” said Shaw Salajová, who is in charge of healthcare, social affairs and sports at the town hall.
“We need to familiarize ourselves in detail with the proposals of the private sector, which wants to finance the new stadium, but at the same time we demand the involvement of the city district. That’s why we need to root out those proposals,” said Prague 5 Mayor Jaroslav Pašmik (Praha 5 Sobě), whose competences include strategic management, sustainable development, business support or security and crime prevention.
