A huge tractor brought the Christmas tree to the Old Town Square. After a few tens of minutes, the crane moved it into the prepared assembly pit.
“There are 12-ton weights around the tree. It will be anchored with steel cables. At the same time, it will be covered with English mothers, and therefore secured against falling,” Martin Švestka, head of transport, explained to Rádio DAB Praha.
First felling in northern Bohemia, then demanding transport to Prague and night operations in the Old Town Square. Reporter Radek Duchoň followed the arrival of the Christmas tree
“The entire tree is anchored in the ground at a depth of less than two meters, so it is also secured from below. The ropes will be on two floors – the first anchorage is at seven meters, the other at less than 18 meters.”
Everything is provided by Technology of the Capital City of Prague. “There will be Christmas balls. There will be a light chain – it’s almost six and a half kilometers. This year we prepared a tree in gold and red. It is supposed to evoke the colors of the Prague municipality, which are yellow and red. We will start decorating basically as soon as it is built,” says the chairman of the company’s board of directors, Tomáš Jílek.
“The tree will always be lit from 4 p.m., which is the time when it gets dark in December, until midnight,” adds Jílek, adding that the Christmas tree will be lit for the first time this Saturday, November 26.
