Too much Vienna for a little Val Pusteria!!
(MG) Val Pusteria loses yet another match against the Vienna Capitals. The Austrians mortgage the victory with the precision in the conclusions shown in the first half, in which the Val Pusteria shows worrying limits of the game. We had to report cards to the home players, in addition to Marco Sanna who is committed and fights for every puck, we would find it very difficult to save someone else. Vienna after having achieved the reassuring double advantage, having in their legs the fatigue of the victorious match yesterday evening at the Palaonda, played in the following 40 minutes “saving” trying to achieve the maximum result with minimum effort.
How to concede two goals in 14 seconds? This is the incredible question that arises after seeing the progress of the first half between Val Pusteria and Vienna.
The hosts seem to be starting off on the right foot and on a couple of occasions with Filip Ahl and Sanna they come very close to the opening goal. Then, after having frustrated two minutes of numerical superiority, following a penalty for a hook with a stick whistled against Stephan Rossmann, Pusteria – suddenly – goes under twice.
The 1:0 was born from a shot by James Sheppard on which Tomas Sholl offers the rebound, Matt Bradley is the quickest of all to reply on the net. The goal probably awakens old ghosts in the defense of the home team, which, as mentioned, also concedes the second goal after 14 seconds. This time the network was born from an unfortunate episode. A shot by Alex Wall hits the body of a Val Pusteria defender; the puck takes a slight detour which surprises the pusterese goalkeeper. Val Pusteria, on the double disadvantage, tries to react and has the best opportunity at 6:56 from the siren when, in power play, Anthony Bardaro in the slot shoots without fail, the puck seems destined for the back of the cage but hits the body of the Austrian goalkeeper who saves by pure instinct.
In the second drittel the two formations face each other openly and opportunities flock from one side to the other. Vienna often and willingly enters the defense of the Wolves, forcedly high, given the attempt of the home team to recover the disadvantage. Val Pusteria makes a lot of play and a lot of pressure but you have the impression that the formation (today) in the black jersey is always missing something, the final pass is missing, the shot in front of goal is missing: in short, there are “correctives” to be made a roster that doesn’t seem up to par with last season’s.
In the third drittel, after an outside post by Bardaro, Val Pusteria found the goal with a shot by Ben Newhouse who found a gap in the attentive defense of the Viennese and shot from the right side crossing at the far post. The same defender on a pass from Bardaro, through the ball, in front of goal, missed the sensational personal brace 7 minutes from the siren. Then with Kainzl in the penalty bench Val Pusteria forces his game even more and a shot by Bardaro is saved by Starkbaum right on the red line. In a tense finale in which the home team removed the goalkeeper to try to recover, Vienna scored twice (into an empty net) with long-range shots from James Sheppard and Matt Bradley. The scores are interspersed with that of Dante Hannoun who – 15 seconds from the siren – brings the result to 2:3 and gives the local supporters the illusion of a sensational comeback, which – instead – does not arrive.
Thus ends with the umpteenth defeat of the Wolves against the formation of the Austrian capital, which has now become its real “black beast” of the yellow and black team.
