Prague 7 will light up the Christmas trees and invite Advent skating
At the end of November, Prague 7 will light up the Christmas trees on Strossmayer and Orten squares. On Sunday, December 4, Sedmička invites especially families with children to the Small Sports Hall at the Exhibition Center for Advent skating. The pre-Christmas period in Sedmička culminates with the traditional Czech Christmas Mass by JJ Ryba, which the district prepared for Wednesday, December 21, in the church of St. Antonín on Strossmayer Square. Admission to all events is free.
“In view of the current difficult situation, we approach new activities with an emphasis on maximum efficiency and energy efficiency. It will also be reflected in the Christmas decorations of the streets. Above all, we don’t want to deprive children of the festive atmosphere of the Advent season, so we will keep the traditional two decorated and illuminated Christmas trees on Strossmayer and Orten square. Along with them, Christmas lights on selected streets were also lit up during Advent in previous years. We have backed away from that for this year,” said the deputy mayor of Prague 7, Hana Třeštíková.
The ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree on Strossmayer square is held on Wednesday, November 23 at 4 p.m. As part of the accompanying program, the Prague Žeste, the children’s choir Radost and the chamber choir Vokalion Praha will perform.
The lighting of the Christmas tree on Orten Square will take place a week later, on Wednesday, November 30 at 4 p.m., and will be accompanied by her Kühn Children’s Choir.
“On both Christmas trees, as in previous years, we left the lower floors free. We will be very happy if the children from Prague 7 get involved in the decoration again and hang their ornaments on the trees, which they make at home or at school,” added Hana Třeštíková.
Free hot chocolate for children and mulled wine for adults will be available at both events. With regard to the need to limit the production of plastic cups Prague 7 for visitors to bring their own cups with them to the Christmas trees.
This year, Prague 7 has prepared an Advent program for children and adults at the Exhibition Center. On Sunday, December 4, children and adults will be able to skate for free from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in the Small Sports Hall at the Prague Exhibition Center. A free skate rental will also be included (it is not possible to reserve skates). In the premises of Strídačka, a small program with a Santa Claus theme will also be prepared for children during the skating period – a creative workshop in which children will make masks of the devil, an angel and Santa Claus, and a photo booth where Santa Claus or an angel will be waiting.
Pre-Christmas events in Prague 7 traditionally culminate with a concert of the Czech Christmas Mass by JJ Ryba and other holiday tunes, which the city district has prepared for Wednesday, December 21, from 7:30 p.m. in the church of St. Antonín on Strossmayer Square.
