Women’s handball Euro preparation: the Hungarian national team took a big beating from the Germans
Tatabánya – The last preparatory match of the Hungarian women’s handball team, which also played against local players, went very poorly.
All players of the Hungarian team are healthy, but for tactical reasons Kinga Janurik, Gréta Márton, Noémi Pásztor and Viktória Győri-Lukács were left out of the squad.

The national team captain Vladimir Golovin asked in the ninth minute, because his team was imprecise in attack, and the opponent took advantage of that with rushes and quick goals (2-5). Even after the short rest, the picture of the game did not change, the attacks were still extremely imprecise, so the manager changed the manager. Neither the defense nor the goalkeeper’s performance worked properly, the deficit continued to increase (3-10), so the Hungarians changed their goalkeeper and switched to an outnumbered offensive game.
In the third part of the match, the Hungarian national team played handball more accurately and with fewer mistakes. They caught up with a 5-1 series, but since they made a total of 12 mistakes in the first half, they were five goals behind at the break.
Melinda Szikora saved only one out of 16 German attempts, so Zsófia Szemerey started the second act in goal, but this was not an act for the team either. There were mistakes noticed in the first half of the match, and in the 43rd minute Golovin asked again (16-23), but he did it in vain, because the national team was weak in every part of the team. In the 52nd minute, the Germans already had a ten-goal advantage, who played tactically, precisely and prepared, but the Hungarians, four days before the first European Championship group match, finished with thirty missed shots and produced a worrying main test.
Szikora finished with one save, Szemerey with five saves, on the other side Katharina Filter blocked 19 shots, with 51 percent efficiency.
Among the DVSC Schaeffler players, Réka Bordás scored four goals, Petra Vámos three, Alexandra Töpfner two, Dóra Hornyák, Petra Füzi-Tóvizi, Dóra Hornyák and Szimonetta Planéta did not find the back of the net.
In addition to the 33rd match between the two teams, 19 Hungarian victories and two draws, the 12th German success was achieved. The statistics do not include 80 and 42 matches against GDR and FRZ.
At the European Championship – where 16 players can be entered for each match – the Hungarians will face Switzerland on Friday, Croatia on Sunday, and Norway next Tuesday in the Ljubljana group. The first three places advance to the semi-finals. There, the Hungarian team can meet the three qualifiers from Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia and Serbia. The goal set by the Hungarian association is the eight best middle districts.
