Zurich Airport winter timetable 2022 | Reisetopia.ch
The timing is next weekend. For us, this not only means being able to sleep an hour longer, but also the start of the 2022 winter flight schedule at Zurich Airport. It has a few surprises in store for us.
The winter flight schedule is forthcoming. This affects a number of connections. Not only new routes are imminent, but also flight connections, which were only planned for the summer period, will now also be continued. Asia and Africa in particular will be better developed in the future, like one press release of the airport can be found.
New flight connections to Africa and Asia
This year’s winter timetable will come into effect at Zurich Airport on October 30th. This brings with it some change – mostly positive change. So the airport welcomes as of October 31st Ethiopian Airlines on the airport grounds. Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline and longtime member of Star Alliance airline alliance, flies three times a week between Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia and the airline’s hub, and Zurich. However, these flights have a stopover in Milan. With the connection to the airline’s hub, travelers have the best transfer options on the continent. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Ethiopian Airlines serves the flight connection, on which a Boeing 787-9 is used. The flight times can be found in the flight schedule as follows:
- ET736 | Addis Ababa – Zurich | Departure: 00:15 Arrival: 07:00
- ET737 | Zurich – Addis Ababa | Departure: 20:45 Arrival: 07:30 the following day
In addition to this new long-haul route, two airlines are resuming the same flight connection. Returns after pandemic hiatus Cathay Pacific returned to Zurich Airport after more than two years and will connect Hong Kong and Zurich twice a week from December. Cathay Pacific uses the Airbus A350 here. Meanwhile, dying also takes Swiss the flight connection to Hong Kong up again. Swiss even flies to Hong Kong International Airport five times a week with the Airbus A340. The flight times are as follows:
- LX138 | Zurich – Hong Kong | Departure: 10:40 p.m. Arrival: 5:40 p.m. the following day
- LX139 | Hong Kong – Zurich | Departure: 22:45 Arrival: 06:10 the following day
Cathay Pacific operates the route at the following times:
- CX383 | Hong Kong – Zurich | Departure: 23:40 Arrival: 06:30 the following day
- CX382 | Zurich – Hong Kong | Departure: 11:55 am Arrival: 06:55 am the following day
Swiss and Edelweiss with expansion of the flight offer
At Swiss, however, things are not only happening in the direction of Hong Kong. On long-haul routes, Switzerland is increasing the frequency of daily flights on selected routes. This affects the routes from Zurich to Bangkok, Delhi and Mumbai. Singapore will now be served six times a week instead of the previous five times a week. Completely new in the flight offer is Bristol in southern England.
The actual seasonal destinations of Bologna, Nantes, Sofia and Vilnius will continue to be served during the winter flight schedule. A trend that can also be seen with other airlines. Edelweiss continues to fly to Ponta Delgada, Croatia Airlines maintains the connection to Split and Saudia continues to fly on the route between Riyadh and Zurich. United Airlines is maintaining the route between Chicago and Zurich that was launched at the end of April.
New flight connections are also in the pipeline at Edelweiss. The airline flies to Boa Vista once a week. In addition to Boa Vista Edelweiss, there are also two weekly flights to the island of Sal Aqaba in Jordan record – but here with a stopover in Amman. This flight connection is to be realized from February 2023.
Conclusion on the expected winter flight schedule at Zurich Airport
My personal assessment of the probable winter flight plan is extremely positive. Seasonal destinations will continue to be served, which could indicate an ongoing desire to travel. With the addition of new long-haul connections, Zurich Airport is even better networked – a clear upgrade. The flights to Addis Ababa and Hong Kong deserve special mention here.
