Zurich: “Perpetrator acted extremely professionally” – University of Zurich hit by cyber attack
The University of Zurich was hit by a cyber attack on Thursday, as the university announced in a 20-minute letter to employees and students. The attack was therefore serious. “The perpetrators seem to be acting extremely professionally,” the letter continues. Only in the German-speaking area have there been several attacks on universities in the last few weeks, as a result of which they have stopped their IT services for a longer period of time.
Due to the measures taken, there have been no indications of surveillance in more protected zones and systems, which is why the IT services are still available to university members. For security reasons, however, individual or service restrictions must be expected at any time and over a longer period of time.
The university immediately increased its security measures after the attack, as it writes in the statement. The cantonal police are also involved. There is currently no knowledge that data has been encrypted or stolen. In her letter, she asks university students and employees to change their passwords.
