The Brno ride is still not over. This time, Kometa knocked off Motor in front of the home crowd and added a ninth win from the last ten games. České Budějovice did not allow a single goal, goalkeeper Dominik Furch could celebrate a clean sheet. “We are happy for the extension of the series and for the home victory,” said coach Martin Pešout after the match.
The comet appeared on home soil after ten days. In the meantime, the Brno team went on a trip to the Czech Republic, from which they brought home five points.
“We were excited because we haven’t played at home for a long time. We are on a winning streak, the players in the first period, with the support of the spectators, whipped themselves to an excellent performance,” the coach from Brno praised his charges and fans. Over 7,200 spectators visited the Winning Group arena, the highest Brno attendance of the season so far.
Kometa created a number of chances in the first half and took a two-goal lead after goals from Koblížek and Zaťovič. In the second period, Flek added the third goal of the home team to set the final score.
The 3:0 victory looks clear, but Pešout pointed out that it was not an easy task: “Whoever saw the match, I had to admit that we had to work hard until the last minute. Our engine was very hot, but thanks to Furch we managed it,” he praised the goalkeeper, who can be happy about his first clean sheet in the Komety jersey.
“Whoever saw the match must admit that we had to fight until the last minute.”
Brno entered the match without their best scorer Luboš Horký, who is serving a three-match suspension for a foul on Karlovy Vary’s Martin Rohan. The Brno coach thus had to shuffle forwards in the lines, but he succeeded brilliantly.
Radek Koblížek moved to Flek and Holík in the first attack, the new elite Kometya squadron secured two goals, Petr Holík even assisted on all three goals of the blue and white team.
“Of course it was a complication, but a player can also be absent due to injury or illness. We took it as at least we can try other bindings. Or even for the playoffs – you know how it is, the players decrease with every match,” Pešout tried to find something positive about Horké’s absence.
But you can rub your hands against the Brno coach – he can obviously rely on many variants in the attack. “I’m glad that the newly formed line made a decision,” he added.
For the first time since September 30, Kometa could celebrate a win by more than one goal. “We fought hard for the previous five victories, the goalkeepers performed brilliantly. It was always about a goal, we already deserved a bigger win,” Pešout assessed.
“We took it as at least we can try other bindings.”
Motor scored one goal on the Brno ice, but the youngster Tomáš Chlubna’s intervention was called off by the referee after a successful appeal by the Brno coach.
“Goalkeeper Coach”Jan Švaříček, note Red.) immediately called us that there should be a hand pass when crossing the blue line. Of course, we at the substitute didn’t notice it in the heat of the game, you can’t even see it under the substitute. We are happy that it worked for us,” the head coach praised his colleague.
