Prague – The World Figure Skating Championships should take place in Prague in 2026. In the preliminary calendar of top events, the international federation ISU approved.
“Great news for Czech figure skating! The best figure skaters should perform in the Czech capital from March 23 to 29, 2026,” said the Czech Figure Skating Association (ČKS).
Its representatives applied for the world championships between 2025 and 2027. They succeeded with the middle term. The World Figure Skating Championships will return to the Czech Republic after 33 years, the last time it was held in Prague in 1993. Ostrava hosted the European Championships five years ago.
The Czechs wanted to win the top figure skating events for 2024, but they failed. At that time, Montreal, which lost the 2020 World Cup due to the coronavirus, was given priority to host the World Cup. The European Championship will be in Budapest in two years.
The last candidacies were only for the World Championship, because the Ostrava hall suitable for the European Championship should be reconstructed and no one gave guarantees that it would be available.
The ISU also decided that in 2025 the World Championships will be held in Boston, the European Championships should be hosted by Zagreb. Before the World Championships in Prague, the figure skaters will meet at the EC in Sheffield.
