WHAT ABOUT… the autumn shot? In Flanders you get an invitation, in Brussels not
“Hospital admissions are accelerating, with the predicted fall wave clearly set in. As we see a generally expected increase in the occupancy of hospital beds, during the load on intensive care, low virologist Steven Van Gucht is heading into the autumn wave for the time being.
A new corona wave, a new vaccination campaign: after the first, have a second booster, i.e. a third shot if your first vaccine was Johnson & Johnson, or a fourth shot in the case of Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Moderna. After weeks and certainly months, the number of vaccines gradually begins to decrease.
1,850,000 stings
The vaccination campaign has been going on for a while. On September 27, more than 1,850,000 people had already received a second booster, or 16% of the adult Belgian population. In Flanders, 27% of the over 18s have received a second booster, compared to Brussels (5%), Wallonia (12%) and the German-speaking part of the country (8%).
The difference in vaccination coverage in Flanders and the rest of the country can be developed before the summer, opting to actively tease the most vulnerable – people over 80 and residents of residential care centers – for a second booster.
Priority for 65+, extra vulnerable people and care sector…
Now it is the turn of the rest of the population. But is the second booster shot recommended for?
According to the website of the Flemish Government, Laatjevaccineren.be, a vaccination at the beginning of autumn is strongly recommended for anyone who is extra vulnerable to becoming seriously ill due to a COVID-19 infection.
In the first campaigns, these people were therefore invited:

How do you get a vaccination appointment?
Now that you’ve made the decision to get vaccinated, all you need to know is how and when to get your shot. Flanders and Brussels approach it differently.
Flanders
According to Laatjevaccineren.be, everyone in Flanders from the age of 18 gets in
The invitations for the autumn vaccination were sent from mid-August; vaccinations started in most places in early September. So you have already received your invitation in September, or you can expect it in the first half of October. You will receive your invitation by post and in your e-box (sometimes also by e-mail).
From the municipality in which you live, you may or may not receive an appointment with a suggested date and time, which you can confirm if you want to reschedule. The letter also says which vaccination center you should be at. You cannot make an appointment without a vaccination invitation.
Before November 1, everyone should have a chance to get a fall vaccine.
Brussels
According to the Brussels website Bruvax, the invitations for people who were given priority (aged 65+, extra vulnerable people and healthcare staff) were received from 12 September.
The rest of the adult inhabitants has since
