Midwifery students from Debrecen became the best in the country
The students participating in the midwifery training were tested by future specialists from four training centers in the country, who presented them at the Nyíregyháza faculty through theoretical and practical tasks.
The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Debrecen has been training future midwives since 2006, who, in addition to theoretical preparation, can participate in practice-oriented training that forms the basis of hospital education. Currently, around one hundred and twenty young people are studying midwifery at the DE ETK, four of them graduating students are participating in the tradition-creating professional competition – writes the unideb.hu.
Young people from four institutions in the country, Pécs, Győr and Budapest, in addition to Debrecen, came to the competition, which strengthens the family-friendly approach and awareness of the midwifery profession.
Among other things, the contestants had to answer medical history questions, perform a tactile examination on phantom dummies, solve situational and communication tasks, and interpret old obstetric terms.
The outstanding midwifery students of the University of Debrecen won the competition based on the decision of the independent professional jury. According to Ildikó Rákóczi, head of the Nursing and Midwifery Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences, this result proved that DE training is on strong footing.
– We were the originators, we wanted to create a professional competition that had never existed in the country before. We are trying to popularize the midwifery profession, hopefully as many high school students as possible will choose it. Of course, the goal was not only to demonstrate knowledge and preparation, but also to develop good professional and friendly relations, and to start new collaborations between the training places, said the head of the department.
The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Debrecen organized the professional competition with the support of the Professional Association of Hungarian Nurses and the coordination of the Hungarian Women’s Union Association, as part of the “HUGONNAI 100” event series jointly with UNESCO, the main sponsor of which is the National Hospital General Directorate, the Hungarian Midwives Association and the It was the Association of Family Organizations of the Carpathian Basin.
The event also commemorated the 175th anniversary of the birth of the first Hungarian doctor, Vilma Hugonnai. According to the plans, the national competition named after the late pioneering specialist will always be hosted by a different training place in the future.
