Russia has begun designing its own space station
October 6, 2022, AEX.RU – Russia has begun designing a new orbital station, but the International Space Station (ISS), said on October 5 the executive director Roscosmos for manned space programs Sergey Krikalev. It is reported “News“.
“We are thinking about building a new space station. We are starting preliminary design work. There is no final decision yet, but we continue to fly to the ISS as long as our new infrastructure is being built,” he said at a press conference dedicated to the launch of the Crew Dragon spacecraft.
He added that Russia will not stop monitoring foreign flights both to the ISS and to the new orbital station.
On October 5, the Falcon 9 launch vehicle with the Crew Dragon spacecraft launched to the ISS in Florida. It will take a crew of four to the International Space Station, including Russian Anna Kikina.
It is expected that after just over a day, Crew Dragon will dock with the orbital station.
In July, the head of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov in the first first Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said that the state corporation had decided to release the international space station after 2024.
According to Borisov, by the time Roskosmos withdraws from the project, it is restoring the state orbital position, its approximate appearance is already on the territory.
In addition, the head of Roskosmos said that the station could be “eternal” due to replaceable modules, and a new generation of spacecraft would serve it.
