Udženija (ODS): The City Hall of Prague 2 has run out of patience with the parking of electric scooters
05.10.2022 12:45 | Press Release
Since 2018, Prague 2 has been trying to regulate the operation of shared e-scooters, which are increasingly flooding the streets of the metropolis. to more radical steps.
“We’ve really run out of patience! Every day, our citizens trip over scooters that are rolling on the ground or standing in the middle of sidewalks. Handicapped or blind people also have to deal with it every day, and it’s also a big problem for mothers with strollers and the elderly. And nobody does anything about it. For a long time, we have been calling for a system solution and the setting of clear rules for the operation of shared means of transport. We would also welcome legislative changes and greater authority of town halls and the police in solving this issue,” says the mayor of Prague 2, Alexandra Udženija.

At the meeting, representatives of the town hall, the city police and the LIMEBOLT companies reached a joint agreement, which consists in carrying out daily inspections of problem areas. The companies LIME and BOLT have promised that they will carry out repairs and remove the scooter in the places that will be notified in the morning hours. This test run will last 14 days, after which data will be evaluated and cooperation with companies will take place.
“We refuse to tolerate the current “Borrow and throw away” system, which we have been leading since 2018 and are calling for the adoption of the necessary legislative measures. Already in November 2021, we selected 32 places for parking e-scooters and, with the positive opinion of the Police of the Czech Republic, asked the City Hall of the Capital City of Prague to install racks. Unfortunately, to be implemented by the Technical Administration of Communications hl. m of Prague still hasn’t happened. We will continue to appeal to both TSK and MHMP for their placement. We don’t want scooter anarchy in our streets,” said the deputy mayor of the second city district for the area of transport, finance and investments, Jan Korseska.
The town hall will definitely not let up in its efforts to solve the situation. As in the past, when after a long struggle it managed to establish a zero tolerance for gambling in Prague 2, in the case of shared scooters, the town hall is determined to resolve the situation until a satisfactory solution is reached that will make life easier for its citizens. That is also why the Prague 2 district is ready to approach the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and together solve the necessary legislation and find clear rules.
