Rally de Portugal Histórico is already on the road with a strong international presence
The 16th edition of Historic Portugal at dawn on Sunday will also cover some of the most charismatic sections of the sport in regions such as Arganil, municipalities of Viseu, Lamego, Barragem da Aguieira and Sintra, but also on roads such as Montalegre and Pombal.
Competition of the Automóvel Club de Portugal combines the sports industry with the discovery of the national territory, behind the wheel of some of the most historic models of the automotive industry.
Over the course of 15 editions, the Historic Portugal Rally is an international historic event that honors the legacy of the best rally in the world, a series of points that continue to present European teams and motivate an ACP Motorsport structure. This year, there is a total of 2,060 kilometers divided into four stages, with departure and departure from Estoril, tested by 73 teams (1 more than in arrivals in 2021) of nine different nationalities. Among these, more than 80 percent are foreign, with emphasis on the squad from France (36 competitors), which will join teams from Portugal, Spain, Andorra, Belgium, Switzerland, Latvia, Russia and Great Britain.
The challenge? Complete 43 Historic Regularity Specials, on roads and kart tracks in the Center and North region, behind the wheel of such legendary cars as the Porsche 911 (traditional dominator of the Historic Portugal Rally, with 10 victories in 15 editions), Jaguar E-Type, BMW 2002, Lancia Fulvia, Mercedes SLC, Ford Escort, Alfa Romeo Giulia, among many others. From the oldest car, a ‘very British’ Austin Healey 100/6 from 1957, driven by the Belgian Denis Duquenne, to the most recent, the Porsche 911 Carrera 2 by the Portuguese Sandro Afonso, there are more than three decades of engineering and car.
timeless travel
Once again integrated into the Estoril Classics programme, the Rally de Portugal Histórico departed from the beautiful gardens of Casino Estoril. The second stage, on Wednesday, October 5th, will link the cities of Figueira da Foz and Viseu, with passes through some of the mythical places of the Rally de Portugal, such as Arganil or Montalto, for a total of 273.5 kilometers. (177.94 in rating specials).
The third stage will start and finish in Viseu, with an incursion into the Alto Tâmega region, passing through Montalegre and a special stage held on its famous circuit. From the village barrosã, the competitors then head to the Douro region and the city of Lamego, before returning to Viseu, which completes a demanding stage with almost 400 kilometers, 176.92 of which in competition mode.
The fourth and final stage is the longest of all and connects Viseu to Estoril (508.1 kilometers, 223.51 in specials), passing through the scenic Aguieira Dam and the city of Pombal, before arriving at the Estoril Casino Gardens. , in the early hours of Saturday (October 8). It will be a moment of accomplishment for the resisters, but also of a consecration for the winners, a consecration well known for the winners, one well known by Belgians Yves Defland, who questions Estere his third victory in the competition, or the French Christophe Baillet and Pierre Colliard winners of the Historic Portugal Rally last year.
