A hard-fought success against Debrecen
In a match brought forward from the 22nd round of the K&H women’s handball league, Győr Audi ETO KC hosted the DVSC Schaeffler team in Audi Aréna Győr. In the first thirty minutes, there was a fierce fight on the field, and in the end, the teams were able to go to the break with an 11-11 draw. In the second half, the two teams went head-to-head for a long time, but in the end Győr won by 3 goals.
The fans in the Audi Aréna Győr were greeted with good news, as the club signed a cooperation agreement with PHOENIX Pharma Zrt. to support the team right before the match.
The members of our team warmed up to the meeting in pink T-shirts, so our club joined the campaign against breast cancer that will be held in October.
Ambros Martín did not play in the match for Stine Oftedal and Ana Gros either, but Eszter Ogonovszky returned to the squad after the injury. Thus, our head coach started the match with the six of Schatzl, Nze Minko, Hansen, Broch, Ryu, Faluvégi and Solberg in goal. The first goal of the match was scored by Anne Mette Hansen, and then Linn Blohm found the net in Debrecen (2 – 0). After ten minutes, our team led 5-2, but Debrecen equalized in the 15th minute (5-5). By the last ten minutes of the half, the teams had an 8-7 advantage in Győr, and the last minutes brought exciting moments, and finally the first thirty minutes ended with a draw (11-11).
The second half started with a goal by Yvette Broch, but after three minutes the visitors took the lead. By the 43rd minute, our team took back the lead (17 – 16), but the excitement was not over yet. At the ten minute mark of the last match, our team was leading by two goals (20 – 18). In the last minutes, the Solbergs managed to create a several-goal lead, and the match ended with a 25-22 victory for Győr.
Ambrose Martin: “We played against a difficult opponent, our preparation was not complete, we struggled a lot in the match. Accordingly, I am satisfied with the team, as our defense works extremely well. Today I am proud of the girls as they fought, a few weeks ago I was not. I liked what I saw, the fighting spirit, the fight they showed. It means a lot to me as a coach.”
Silje Solberg: “It’s always a pleasure to play in such a high level match. Debrecen’s team made the match difficult. It was not easy to prepare after the national team period, but the same is true for our opponent. We fought very well and showed a very high level of defense, which also found my job.”
