Russia registers flights to the ISS before its own space statistics in near-Earth orbit – Russia |
The 4th of October. Interfax-Russia.ru – Russia is gathering flights to the International Space Station (ISS) until it recognizes its own space value, which ensures a permanent presence in near-Earth orbit, Sergei Krikalev, executive director of the state corporation Roscosmos for manned programs, said on Tuesday.
“We are likely to extend our participation in the station until 2024 and start thinking about designing and building a new station, but we understand that this will not happen quickly, so we probably continue to fly until the next situation is discovered, which provides us with a permanent presence in close Earth orbit, at the place of residence,” Krikalev said during a NASA teleconference dedicated to the SpaceX Crew-5 mission.
“We continue to fly together, we continue to fly with NASA until 2024,” he added.
The agreement to operate the ISS expires in 2024. The Russian side announced its intention to withdraw from the ISS project after 2024, but the exact date of completion of the work has not been determined. As stated by the head of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov, the exit from the ISS project should be synchronized with the start of work on the new Russian orbital station. According to Vladimir Solovyov, general designer of the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation, the first modules of the new station will be implemented in 2028.
NASA has repeatedly announced plans to extend the operation of the ISS. As reported on August 11 at the ISS Multilateral Coordination Council, station partners intend to answer this question with their own restrictions.
